The Benefits of Hobbies | Hobbies to help with Stress Eating.

Some women think of hobbies as a waste of time that provide little benefit to life; however, this couldn’t be further from the truth.

Whenever I have a friend or a client who is stressed or is just going through a tough time, I always ask what they do for fun. Most of the time they reply “nothing”, which in many cases is a cause of the stress and stress eating.

I immediately tell them to find a hobby; there is no better way to get out of a slump than to find something you enjoy doing.
For some women, hobbies are an emotional outlet; for others, it’s a way to keep the mind and body active.

For me personally, hobbies are a physical and mental outlet. When I’m biking or doing yoga, I don’t have time to think of my daily worries, which is one reason it is so enjoyable.

It’s important to find something you truly enjoy. You don’t have to stick with one hobby either- try out different ones.

There are many benefits hobbies can provide, including:

Keeping you active – Hobbies are a great way to keep yourself physically active.  Try biking, swimming, running, or go to the gym. These activities will not only provide enjoyment but they will help you stay healthy and look better.

Helping you stay social – By having hobbies, chances are you will meet like-minded people. Try joining a club, this way you will be guaranteed to meet people.  Having friends is very important in life, and meeting people with similar interests is easier than you think.

Revealing hidden talents and passions – Try finding things that interest you like playing music or painting-you may have a hidden talent for it. This can lead to a passion for your hobby, which can be very rewarding.

Relaxing you and easing stress – lastly and most importantly, hobbies offer you time to relax and release stress. Having a hobby will give you time to unwind from a stressful day, and give you a much needed mental vacation. We all have heard the saying “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy” well it’s true! Finding something you truly love to do can add value and purpose to your life. I can guarantee you will be an all-around happier person.

When thinking about what makes us healthy, as humans we usually think of eating right, exercising, taking vitamins, etc…. we rarely think of hobbies. However, hobbies are crucial in keeping us happy and healthy throughout life. Without them life is just a cycle and work and chores, find something you enjoy doing, and in no time you will be on your way to a more fulfilling life.
